(3/4) As Eleanor Roosevelt famously said at the 10th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR): “Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home, so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world.”

(4/4) “There's really no circumstance where detention is the appropriate setting for someone who's pregnant,” said Sarah Decker, our Sr. US Staff Attorney. We demand a full review, the release of all pregnant people in ICE custody, & accountability for the abuses they’ve endured.

(3/4) ICE’s own directive generally prohibits the detention of pregnant people. Yet under the current administration, pregnant women are being detained, restrained, and subjected to medical neglect.

(2/4) Some of the women report being fed nothing more than a tiny frozen burrito in an entire day. Others say they “dream of eating meat” after going weeks without protein. What we’re seeing is not isolated incidents, but a systemic failure that is putting lives at risk.

(3/3) “They want to be able to abuse people with impunity,” said Anthony Enriquez, our VP of US Advocacy & Litigation. “They want a system that doesn’t have any rules and that can be used to maximize brutality against people, in order to accomplish a mass deportation agenda.”

(2/3) Former oversight officials warn that the system was “deliberately decimated.” Whistleblowers say detention centers are now operating with almost no accountability as the Trump admin. escalates arrests, expands detention, and strips public records from government websites.
