The Emancipation Proclamation. New York Times (1857-19221; Dec 17, 1864: ProQuit Historical Newspapers: The New York Times with Index pg. 4 The Emancipation Proclamation. We find the following paragraph in the Anti-Slaver/ Standard: " We know that the TIMES of this city, under pre-tence of magnifying the Message and the President, affirms anew the Dana-Seward Doctrine that the Proclamation, being a war measure, will end with the war, and that the rebels, by submitting in season, may save what slaves have not been actually set tree by the operation of the war. We are sure that this gloss belies as well as dishonors Mr. LINCOLN. There is no sentence or word in his Message, or in any ut-terance of his since he made the Proclamation, on which such an inference can be hung." The Standard mistakes, or at least mis-states, our position on this subject. We have never said that " the Proclamation will end with the war," except so far as it is a war measure. That is the precise language we used in the very article from which the Standard professes to quote. Whether it is or is not to have validity after the war ends, as affecting civil rights and State usages, is a question which the courts must decide. This is our position... Unit rights and State usages, is a question which the courts must decide. This is our posi-tion, and we believe it to be that of the Pres-ident, of Mr. SEWARD, and of everybody else who has any definite opinion on the subject. That the Proclamation was issued as a war measure, for war purposes, and in the exer-cise of the war power, the President express-ly declares, and nobody, so far as we know, pretends to doubt. If there had been no war, the President would have had no right to proclaim emancipation. So long, and so long only, as he is acting in his capacity of Com-mander-in-Chief of the army, and is prose-cuting war against rebels in arms, he will have the right to maintain and enforce that Proclamation as a war measure. When the war ceases, as it will when the rebels cease fighting, war measures will cease, and this among them. Another question will have arisen mean-time, growing out of that Proclamation. By its terms all the slaves in States now in rebellion... its terms all the slaves in States now in rebel-lion have been set free. So far as that declaration shall have been carried into ac-tual effect, when the war ceases Its results will be beyond controversy, just like any other results of actual hostilities. But where it may not have taken actual effect,—upon laves who may not have been actually made free, as well as proclaimed free,—when the war ends, its validity will be open to precisely the same question as that of any other act of the Government. The Executive Department is pledged to maintain it ; but Congress may de-prive the Executive of the power to redeem this pledge, and the Judiciary may annul the act altogether. When the war ends, the war power falls into abeyance again, and all questions to which the war may have given rise, all questions growing out of Emancipa-tion, Confiscation, Blockade, or other acts of the Government, are to be settled within the Union,under the Constitution and in the ordinary... nary course of its provisions. Upon this point we presume the Standard agrees with us ; and we do not see, therefore, how it can dif-fer from us in thinking that after it ceases to have effect as a war measure, (which will be of course when the war ends,) the further potency of the Proclamation will be subject wholly to the judicial action of the Supreme Court of the United States. Practically we hope the question will be one of little consequence. We trust that Con-gress and the people of the States will concur in so amending the Constitution as to abolish and prohibit the existence of slavery. No one doubts the rightful power of the people thus to act, and such action would at once dispose of all questions connected with slavery by disposing forever of slavery itself. Seems to be a few different rally points and clumps of people at No Kings DC. Plus some people just sitting around the periphery of the monumental core holding signs.

Schiedam Lidwina is also thought to be one of the first documented cases of multiple sclerosis. At the age of fifteen, she suffered a serious injury while ice skating and became progressively disabled. Hendrik Mande wrote for her consolation a pious tract in Dutch. She fasted frequently and acquired a reputation as a healer and holy woman. Upon her death in 1433, her grave became a place of pilgrimage

How about that, we're still doing slip lanes in year 2025 of the Common Era
