There was a time as a first time manager when I liked Hazelnut Coffee. I thought it was more special than your typical coffee.

To celebrate the closing of my first year as a PI, I present the drastically miss-sized things I have ordered next to what I was trying to order, a thread.

Up first...Rosie the wrench. Silver lining torque is amazing and we now have a lab mascot.

Imagine - Distribution is so critical Google pays billions to be the search engine on iPhone.

Microsoft *removes their AI from their OS*.

Does Microsoft not want you to use Copilot?

Copilot on windows 11 is such an unforced error. It started great - a native, built in copilot for your day. This could have been groundbreaking.

And the team.. Decided to rip that out and make it a web app? Why would I use that it's no longer integrated into my workspace.

This week I'm with the Loupe team in the UK working on our new "instant container" version of Loupe. One thing we're vascillationg on is "do we auto-create a self-signed cert for SSL?

This incorrect placard caused quite the argument over who had what seat. It was put on the left side of the row, and it’s a right side placard. See if you can spot the problem.

I’m enjoying my flight experience to the Uk so far. We haven’t left the gate and after an hour of them trying things to fix the issue they’re going to reboot the plane.

There’s a part of me that thinks this is laughable - but from an engineering perspective : yes, let’s try that.

Gen AI may achieve the extraordinary - convince me to get another monitor.

It's messing with my well-worn window habits to keep moving my AI Assistant around, so I might be compelled to put another monitor on the left for it so my Email and Media player can live in peace.

My Brother: Lost my reading glasses, gonna have to go back to Home Depot.

Me: For reading glasses?

My Brother: Yeah, where else?

I now have this image of DeWalt reading glasses...

About the Las Vegas GP: “The race is held at 10:00 PM to fit the normal time for its prime audience “

Where, Australia? That’s 6/7 AM in Europe.

Let’s be honest: this is all about not messing up the Casino revenue too badly.

I’ve been a massive fan of Service bus for years - it’s been a key enabling tech in each SaaS I’ve been involved with for the past.. decade?

But automated tests have always been a thorn because of the lack of local story - and this closed that gap. Excellent!
The Azure Service Bus emulator is finally here! 🎉🎉🎉

This will make local development and local testing so much easier and also cheaper!👌🏼 But remember, as with any emulator, you still want to test against the real service as well 😅
We are beyond excited to announce the Service Bus local emulator! This has been the most requested feature for Service Bus, and today is the day.

You can find the official announcement at techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/messagi....

Kevin blows me away. In the past week, we've dropped deep into at least two areas of tech, he brow beat me to stop coding and get back to Marketing (workin' on it kev!)

And then on the weekend he's *redoing the brake lines on the family car*.

Epic.
Today I did my first brake line swap on our minivan. Surprisingly easy to do even, including bleeding which I had only ever done with my dad.

I would totally pay a few dollars each month to support BlueSky, even if there were no benefits. Just to support a social network that is open to both users and developers.

This is Loupe 6 running as a docker container on my *synology NAS at home*. Now that's epic portability!

This is really a testament to the .NET team (and Synology).
November 17, 2024 at 12:44 AM
We haven't benchmarked the new .NET 8 builds for Loupe 6 vs. the .NET Framework implementation in Loupe 5 - largely because it's not the point ATM and most of our server perf is ultimately limited by SQL Server

But anecdotally, it's faster.
November 17, 2024 at 12:31 AM
Upgrading Loupe to .NET 8 was a lot less work than I expected - This is a codebase with its roots in *.NET 2.0*.

The WinForms UI was surprisingly less work than I expected- thanks mostly to DevExpress who really has their act together.

It’s been a while since I’ve been excited about the potential of a product I’m working on, but the next version of Loupe Logging is definitely it!

I’ve been working on a new dependency less container version of Loupe Server with the goal of being useful, free, and click to run.
