Day 3 of #ArtAdventCalendar: I enjoy experimenting with new colors and media and techniques on the various paper I've accumulated over the years of Art Supply Adventures. These are representative shots of each side of a dual-sided piece.

The leafy textures came first and then I felt like adding a nod to DNA for a trunk concept.

Day 1 of #ArtAdventCalendar: A triptych of an acrylic rainbow across three 8x8in canvases with acrylic markers and inks and stencils adding cloudy, rainy details.
In the first canvas, blended and scraped reds and oranges dominate with just a hint of yellow at the far right of the canvas. In the second canvas, greens and yellows blend and scrape. In the third canvas, blues, indigos, and violets blend and scrape over one another. Across all three canvases are neurographic-style lines in black and silver. Stenciled shapes like cookie cutouts of clouds in pearly and suns in silver decorate each canvas. All canvases are speckled with rose gold and edged in black.

This cat has been very insistent i join her for Balcony Time. But she just wants to snuggle near my shoes and catch some sun rather than curl up next to me.

Also, should I go back inside, she will be very cross. She loves to combine Balcony Time with Momma Time.
A calico cat with lots of orange and black splotches all over her body but with white legs and undercoat lies curled up next to blue Hoka Recovery Slides (seriously the best house shoes) on the brown wooden slats of a Balcony floor. She is stretching on white hind leg out to get more sun.

From the Oro Valley, AZ #NoKings. Not sure what the total number was, but we were out there in force, lining the last major intersection as you head out of Tucson.

This is a piece that has been in my WIP bin as I try to figure out what else it needs. My current thinking is some texture, but I haven't felt confident enough to actually put it to the canvas yet.

Turquoise is a favorite of mine. Living in the southwestern US, I get to see all kinds of variety in turquoise gems in both coloring and settings. I went far afield to a tropical lagoon for today's prompt, though, wanting to play with watercolors and salt a bit.

I actually don't have a peach color in all my different odds and ends of supplies. So I grabbed five different colors, aiming for the variegated coloring of the fruit. It was a fun exercise!

I had fun scraping some acrylic paint around to give a sense of a field of lavender bushes. I can almost smell it. I miss the lavender bushes I had managed to grow in my small herb garden. I'll have to try that again.

I've missed quite a lot of the daily challenges, but black seems a perfect one for re-joining. Let's just say I'm mourning my 401K and used some shiny silver and pearl coloring to manifest a silver lining into existence for it...

#MkrsmARTch Day 19: #Fire

This #WIP has been fun to play with, trying to break down some of the elements of a good fire with smoke, intense black-blue flames, and a good red-orange-yellow gradient background. I'll be adding more embers and sparks.

Black spiky blobs like dark smoke lick into the center from the edges, as do sharp triangles of black-blue intense flames (using gel). Black neurographic lines drift from the smoky blobs like wisps of haze. The background is speckled with copper and gold ink to give a sparky sense.

THE KITCHEN IS DONE! The housework that began in late October is finally complete.

I sleep now.
Frodo at the end of the Return of the King after finally destroying the One Ring and completing an dramatic and traumatic quest. He's looks like the most exhausted collection of skin and bones possible. There's literally a volcano erupting behind him because of his efforts. But he's done. He's completed the assignment. There's a convenient Plot Device coming to rescue him in a minute. For me, it was an unexpected assist from our homeowners insurance. Bless USAA.

Acrylic inks are fun to play with. I use them a lot for splatter effects on other paintings then take the remainder of whatever I've diluted to create backgrounds for another composition. This is also my #WIPWednesday: I want to add to this, but not sure what.

Whenever I'm short on time or inspiration or mood, I like to grab a few paint colors that just "feel right" at the moment and use wedges to scrape them over a sketchbook page. Today I was feeling into shimmery oranges & yellows that catch the sun, like a message received.
6x6in spiral bound sketchbook sitting in the sunshine on a woodgrain floor. The composition is a shimmering smear of golden yellow over shimmery orange and turmeric yellow. There are grid lines and diagonal lines that have been scraped through the top golden yellow layer.

This paint smoosh gives a soft-focus type of feel, like you're looking into a rippling lagoon or fish tank, details obscured and blunted by the water.

I love this! I hope we keep this circulating so we find ourselves doing this routinely.

"Belladonna," one of my first embellished fluid artworks . The purple swallowed the green and obscured the layers. So I highlighted them with a lime green marker.

Another WIP that I'm trying to rescue. I was experimenting with tape types and custom gradients and jewel tone effects and it didn't come out as I had envisioned. Probably shouldn't load up a single canvas with so many experiments at once!
