I had to write up a short description of my next book, SEVEN ANGELS, so I figured I might as well put it out there.

It's coming this summer from our Constellate Publishing.

Aldi in Knoxville still sparsely stocked as trucks are still having trouble getting here post-winter storm. @marywhnews.bsky.social

I'm deep into writing an upcoming piece for @crimereads.bsky.social about William Conrad, best known as portly TV detective "Cannon" but a great heavy in noir films like "The Killers" and director of a series of offbeat thrillers like "Two on a Guillotine."

Good morning from a domicile that never lost power and got virtually no snow. We got freezing rain last night and I was afraid ice would bring down limbs and power lines but the temperature started going up overnight and stayed above freezing all night.

Ready for the worst if we lose power.

We never know what the day will bring, especially with bad weather on the way. But we start this day with coffee and a pot roast that cooked overnight in the slow cooker. We might be eating our lunch in the dark. We’ll see.

I’m well known for my role at the corporation called Self Employed. Seriously, why do they send this bullshit out?

Wild. @usatoday.com embedded my tweet about pre-winter storm panic buying into their story about pre-winter storm panic buying.

“Coffee’s not working.”

Scenes from winter storm prep: panic buying. At Aldi down here, bread, milk, eggs and toilet paper gone Wednesday night, two days before the storm hits.

We might be in the middle of an ice storm in the South this weekend. Very unfond memories of covering the ice storm in East Central Indiana 20 years ago and going home to a cold dark house with a flooded crawl space for most of a week. (Thousands were out of power for more than a week.)

What are elements of your upcoming book?

Brave young woman runs her family funeral home and combats white supremacists, pill-pushers, killers

Search for a missing Ukraine girl sought by a Russian trafficker

Troubled Tennessee town

Corrupt sheriff

Band of women working together

Penny cowers at the vet but Pearl fights. They have to handle her with falconers gloves. “I’m gonna kill all you fuckers” is her baseline. Photo of them - Penny at left - ready for dinner tonight.

Is it possible for a novel to be comforting and disquieting, a cozy book and a horror story? VANISHING DAUGHTERS is one of the most dream-like novels I’ve read. @cynthiapelayo.bsky.social is so highly recommended.

I was assured it did not get this cold in the South.

Got my first author blurb for my Tennessee crime novel SEVEN ANGELS, from a kind and gracious bestselling author. Can’t wait to share it with you.

I just called my Maga senator and congressman to tell them that ICE just killed a woman in the streets of Minneapolis and they need to withdraw their blind support of the madman in the White House who has enabled this to happen.

This is startling, but I understand. The newspaper business has changed a lot and continues to change. I hope the readership follows to digital.

Come to Knox and we’ll take you to Billie Rae’s BBQ Soul Food.
Smoked meatloaf and fried cabbage, fried okra, smoked Mac and cheese and smoked brisket. It’s all so good.
