Conceptually, trusts aren't really the same as businesses. Companies have to be publicly registered so they can act as entities. But trusts are really a settlor giving assets to a trustee to hold in trust - a direct contract, not (conceptually) involving the state.

No, but there are often trustee companies and lawyers who act as trustees owners of land/companies, and you can find those, and through the transaction records you can often see the real owners (assuming they're not in full-on stealth mode, which is actually uncommon)
