As someone who spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars to see the live shows in Australia, it was worth every cent! My Taylor Swift.

The importance of hope, the importance of community, the importance of creation and hard work and togetherness. Idk not to be fucking abnormal about this show but considering how life feels for many of us right now, the whole story just seemed incredibly necessary rn.

OK, what I'll say is this - everyone should have died, it was certain death, the whole concept of the story is that this is what sparked centuries of war and ruin and our characters were doomed to 'go down with the ship'... But the players have agency which is the magic of these games is it not 😉

Do you want the spoiler?

Now I need the novel of Crokas's adventure after the end of Divergence and the import thing he starts 😉

They are playing higher level characters with fairly important positions in the city which is really interesting and different to most 'Adventuring parties'. It does get intense and really high stakes, (like life and death, world ending stakes) but that really adds to it in my opinion.

This was Brennan's first time in Critical Role's DM seat. The players are a mix of 3 regular Critical Role cast (Travis, Marisha and Sam) and 3 players with experience from other shows (Lou, Louis and Aabria) but they all mesh really well and play characters with prior relationships which is fun!

ExU Calamity is a prequel so while there are a few name drops of things from the original campaigns (the reactions at the table tell you when those are) they are not nessicary for understanding the story and you don't need to have watched all the rest to enjoy an epic adventure.

Absolutely totally agree 100%

I'd also recommend trying ExU Calamity if you want a taste of what the hype is about. It's only 4 eps, about 20 hours and many of the Fans say it's their favourite.
Also, if you've seen Dimension 20 Escape from the Bloodkeep (the LOTR one), Brennan will be a familiar DM & the players a fantastic!

As a massive CR fan who openly admits I've not watched it all and probably never will, there are lots of ways to get a taste without committing to hundreds of hours. The animated series, reading recaps and CR Wiki articles, or abridged version, the main campaigns have many ways to watch!

I really loved the new edit style with the close ups during key moments! Took a moment to get used to and definitely borrowing from from shows like Dimension 20, but really effective for those 1 on 1 conversations and seeing the depth of emotion.
Is this something we will be seeing more from CR?
