What I thought would be a quiet day of translation...having made it only through the character list, what was supposed to be a peaceful pastoral is instead a comedy documenting the fall of the family that brought us fascism. All from the playwright who just writes "bourgeois" frivolous comedies...

No I don't want "humane" deportations, for the same reason I don't want "friendly" cops in schools or "understanding" genital inspectors at sporting events.

The problem is the fascism, not that the fascism is rude.

It is almost as if...wait for it...people who are historians and actively study oppression and authoritarianism had enough insight based on knowledge to accurately predict what was occuring. Stop giving airtime to those who couldn't see the signs, amplify those who did.

This week I've been reading "The Death of Nero", an unstaged play written during the rise of Stalin. Two times merge in the play, the time of Emperor Nero, alongside a populist uprising in 1919. In the end, the two blend disrupting time.

History is rhyming again, 100 years later and Nero is reborn.

Queer erasure has been on the agenda since Stonewall. They've never made it a secret.

People weren't listening, and thought it couldn't happen to them. They stayed wrapped up in the false sense of security of not being 'other' enough.

They thought we were safe.
But we're not.
We never were.

Dear President Zelensky, I am so sorry Trump and Vance behaved in such an abhorrent way. You and Ukraine deserve so much more after this horrendous decade. The experience and lessons learned by the Ukrainian people deserve to be heard, not shouted over to get the best sound byte. #славаукраїні

Creating new translations of plays has begun to change how I write in English. I've stopped using the article "the" finding more powerful ways to express without it. Not especially profound, but while editing my current chapter, I noticed how rarely it appeared when expected.

“I will never accept any decisions between United States & Russia about Ukraine. Never.”

It's clear that a lot of academics don't believe philosophy is about critical thinking. They believe philosophy is about categorization.

When you ask people to think about things they've already categorized, they can't because that would require taking off the neat & tidy bow they've placed on it.
