When Jimmy Carter passed, I was thankful of his life and grieved the loss of his moral and spiritual authority in the world.

Clearly that authority resides in others. This is the faith that I signed up for and remains the path that I aspire to walk.

When we Christians are more known for our support of presidents than we are for our support of the poor, the immigrant, the marginalized, and the oppressed, that is when we know we are following someone other than Jesus and we have a lot of repenting to do.

Beautifully said and as a Canadian, I hold this same hope for our neighbours to the South and for my own homeland as well for we have our own original sins.

In these days when hope feels more like foolishness, I hold onto this quote by Nick Cave,

I really do believe in God and that God has a purpose for the American story. I still have hope for the city on a hill, that somehow reconciliation and brotherhood will someday emerge from the original sin of racial enslavement. That we will be a righteous people and live in harmony.

I love photography in dense urban environments. Sometimes a whole day walking doesn't a produce a single image but it always provides an entire day being present with and really observant of the people and stories that live there.
