I teach math and astronomy. Unless I'm walking around the woods somewhere...
I still talk to people about this book at least once a month. It is such a great read and is incredibly eye-opening and thought-provoking. I can't recommend it to enough people.

That explains why the newscaster is imploring me to watch where the huskies go.

If you go out some night in a clear sky and just watch you will see dozens of them. It is infuriating.

This doesn't get enough coverage

We had a similar problem after changing the light bulb in the oven. The new one was to efficient ! I ended up going to thrift store to find an old 100w lightbulb that I use to heat the oven for making yogurt now.

The best way I have found to make it uncool is to say equals 42 immediately after and then launched into the discussion about how when we have two things next to each other we tend to imply multiplication. If you really want to continue you can discuss situations where addition is implied.

And states are passing laws that you cannot have fees for books, which sounds good, until you realize that it gives an excuse not have any books in the schools at all

Nice. I like the reinforcing division as repeated subtraction also.

Oh I don't take it personally! It's a valid point. I know language is important, what we say matters.

For example I've been trying very hard to say "our union" rather than "the union" because what we say can create lasting impressions.

I think sometimes his math teachers we lose sight of that.
November 13, 2025 at 12:27 AM
I guess it is good too consider language more closely than I usually do. By saying job creator I gloss over that job destroyer aspect.

Language is important. I should do better.
November 13, 2025 at 12:22 AM
Yeah definitely. I imagine that the number of jobs created versus the number of jobs destroyed is basically a wash.

Also I think that we as teachers help create people who can have and hold a job.

I definitely think that employment is not the point of education but economically it's important

This program helps teach teachers how to access all this NASA data and do real authentic research with their kids. It's amazing. It's one of the best development programs I've ever been a part of.

Can we agree that it could be even better if we had the exponent as
$\hbar \cdot 0 $ on the left?

Don't give my junior high daughters any ideas!

This whole thing is insane. I generally agree with no phones in the classroom as they are distracting and do lead to unfortunate incidents.

I don't know how does your school but the guidance is no phones but we have no policy beyond that and so it's a hodgepodge that doesn't work at all.
