Many (many) years ago I was very lucky to have a 90-minute off the record lunch with Sid Meier and the conversation was incredible. Absolutely near the top of my wishlist.

Which is very, very different from having a *good* time or wanting to go back ever lol

I had a fascinating time the three days I was there because it was just this absolute departure from reality, like if a long weekend were a dissociation, everything about it was more bizarre and more constructed than Disney World.

Sure, mine did, and I grew up to be an editor in US English, in the US lol.

The UK editors today, though...

I have been delighted today to be able to very clearly spot which among my many, many writer / editor acquaintances use British English or American English, as everyone fights over this.

It is definitely easier to get kids to take after someone else's trajectory than their own parents', haha. (Mine are 7 and 12. It's fun times. My son -- the 7yo -- spontaneously *did* decide to start learning some Spanish last month, the elder kid takes French in school)

You're running through the gamut of languages I've done, hehe. (French from 6th grade through college, Chinese for a few semesters in college, Spanish as an adult... I'm going very, very, very slowly on Arabic, too.)

We have a black walnut tree maybe 5' away from the side of our house and at this time of year I am decidedly not a fan lol, walnuts are LOUD and MESSY when they fall onto your roof from a height of several stories

Yeah, I walked away from that particular platform in 2022 haha.

So many various groups, people, and (bad) actors on the internet, I can't keep track of them

Oh my god, I just discovered that YouTube automatically *sticks AI learning modules* at the bottom of this one, presumably because it has the keywords "AI" and "education" in the title and description.

I ended up with so much audio that I couldn't use everything teachers sent me but "What are we DOING here?" showed up at least three discrete times that I can remember offhand ❤️

Yeah, competitors have been entering the space in the past decade (GOG, Epic, Xbox on PC...) and their comparative lack of market share is in large part down to factors regulators can't easily address.

A thing we do see in the Korra arc, though, is -- well, mixed marriages lol. Bending affinity seems to have a genetic component, and while in Aang's time all the nations are very separate, in Korra's time urbanization has led to new mix-and-match people, as it were. With different specialties.

I was unprepared for the thing where when one kid is 12, suddenly it looks like there are grown-ass adults on your porch all the time and adult shoes on your mat and -- no, that's *just the kids*, they are all lorg
November 5, 2025 at 7:31 PM
Oooooh trust me, we did that too.

Some children were just born to be little Houdinis.

Our oldest was afraid of the Z-axis, maybe you'll get lucky? 🤞
