I teach high school African American Studies and AP Comp Sci. Louisiana GLTOY 2023. M.Ed in Ed Tech. Illness stopped MA in History. I am the second-best teacher and third-smartest person in my house. If we don’t count the cats.

I love this little human with every fiber of my being. She is beautiful and smart, but most importantly she is kind.
I keep trying to find something to like about MSY, but I keep finding reasons not to.

Sometimes, the right song by a band that never gets played comes on when you need it.

Writing has made my students better programmers. (And yeah, I now have a WordPress and Substack)

Why Writing Every Day Changed My Computer Science Class
Daily bellringers, sentence frames, and feedback turned my students into stronger thinkers, faster coders, and more confident test‑takers.

7yo: When we clean up the playroom

Me: Hold up, we? It's your playroom.

7yo: Yes, but it is in your house, so you own it, which means it's OUR responsibility.

I worked in New Orleans Public Schools 20 years ago until August 29th.

I had the means to escape the storm, but many of my students didn't.

Over the years, thanks to social media, I've been able to find many of them again. Most are doing so well that it makes my heart smile to see their posts.

Well, that is my favorite song on my favorite album.

Going outside of it, Into the Groove always makes me want to dance. And I never want to dance.
Without saying Frozen, fav Madonna Song?

Before I started today, I reflected on yesterday’s lesson. I focused on what I was thankful for, what I (not the students) wanted to accomplish today, and, most importantly, for what I wanted to give myself grace.

Today was the best day I've had in a while in the classroom.

C&C Music Factory. Free Nicholls State concert for students in 91 or 92.

Saw them at the Cherry Blossom parade a few years back.

Friday night at Chuck E Cheese with my little bestie.

She jumps, I learn as she says.

If I could get my sleep schedule on an actual schedule, this would be one of the best starts to school yet. While I was dealing with a personal tragedy (BIL lost battle to cancer), the students were kind and forgiving - more than I was. And even for my class that is made up mostly of kids…

Since this is being done in my name to save my tax money, I want to see reports showing productivity from in-office work compared to remote work for each branch. If we are going to approach this like a business, let's approach it like a business.

Glass Onion has to be Ed Norton’s worst role. He played the character way too smart to be based on Musk.

I just watched the Abbott Elementary, where they ask the School Board for basic things.

It was eerily similar to New Orleans Public Schools before Katrina. I had two working lights and only got them fixed because I worked nights at Comp USA and sold the Assistant Super a computer.

I really want a member of the press corps to ask Trump who is the alpha when he and Musk are in the same room. Go for the only thing he cares about—his ego.

I'm waiting for the moment when people realize that their taxes are going to go up because some of these government jobs will be replaced by private sector jobs that aren't as cheap as the public sector and are of the same efficiency or worse. This is especially true if it is a large corporation.

Traffic to the airport (MSY) was horrible this evening.

Maybe because the airport made pick-ups an afterthought.

We had a great week in Blue Ridge, Georgia, and surrounding areas. My little one is becoming a great traveling companion. However, our Nissan Rogue is probably ready to return to the flat lands of Louisiana.
