went birding with my new camera and the zoom lens!! at mount auburn cemetery!! got these photos!!

practicing just trying to see (and hear) where the birds are and sit long enough and look hard enough to discover how many there actually are. is that birding?

have u always wanted ur own website? hey friends! if you have been wanting to set up your own website but don't know where to start or want an accountability buddy to help see you through - let me know! i don't have all the answers but i really want people to have a beautiful independent space of their own, away from increasingly hostile big tech platforms. let me know <3 you don't have to be a creator to have a website! some potential reasons you could have a website: - to let people know where to find you - to blog and write all your serious and silly thoughts - to share your favourite things (movies, music, videos, pictures, links, wikipedia articles, animal facts) - to store things you don't want to forget (resolutions, goals, ideas) - to display your resume (if you want to go profesh) - just because you can!!! who says two or three companies have to own your soul on this big and beautiful internet of ours!!

WIP: mixing text elements in DOM with drawing on canvas, for a visual tree builder :)

i think i'm trying to evoke the practice of methodically diagramming the syntax of a sentence, without asking the user to learn all the formal rules, necessarily. i… hope that's ok (?) (we'll see? lmk ??)
The sentence "I went home to my mother", where I've clicked on the words "my" and "mother" to connect them with a parent node, with lines drawn between the three elements. The same sentence, now connecting the word "to" to the node that represents the words "my mother", creating another node at a third level.

i've been wanting to do something with poetry + programming + linguistics (esp syntax trees) for a while. here are some stills from a first exploration!!

i'm using the tree structure to create an annotated/multi-level poem, w definitions/sidenotes for each constituent :)

waaitt this is absolutely when i was trying to think of re "fantasy software"! eldritch horrors living in our computers… looking everyday tech in the eyes and conceptualising it in this high concept, fantastical, unsettling way that reflects our mundane worries and dystopias

The prompt "what i feel is" followed by repetitions of "rage and rage and rage". A couple of poems in the archive of submissions: the rage poem from the first image, and a poem titled "being online is all", followed by the single word "grief". This was initially born out of the summer of 2020 as a way to process the overwhelming and overlapping tidal waves of emotion that I was feeling across many communities. The feelings were big, wild brushstrokes, but it helped to identify them and know, at the peaks, it was rage and rage and rage I was feeling. Part of the process of building the tool was thinking about how details in the interface of constructing the poem served as metaphors for emotional expression. How does it feel to blow the words up as big as building graffiti, as opposed to scratching them tiny into the underside of a desk? In between the building blocks of feeling words, how do those entangled masses spill over and well up in the conjunctions? What do those pauses between words hold; and, how, too, are we coming in and out of our poems of emotion—emphatically, assuredly, or perhaps breathlessly, elliptically, with more still to be voiced?
