Really feel like I’m cooking with these protest signs. The organizers for this event understood the assignment

I found Mars AND Jupiter in the tiny sliver of sky between Times Square skyscrapers for the planetary alignment 🤩😭🔭🌃

Does anyone have tips for how to physically print astrophotography? I have an Epson 8550 and have tested a few types of papers from Red River company but I haven’t found a great configuration yet.

Getting the stars to contrast well is haaaard 😅

I caught what is a nearly perfect shot of the Gemini constellation last night!!!
✨✨✨✨✨

In Brooklyn NYC?!

Hot take: light pollution makes constellation identification easier not harder 🌃🌌🔭

Day 3 out of 4 catching a moon halo. This one features a surprising number of stars in the Leo constellation!

Follow for more moonbow hunting since apparently this is what I do now 😂🤩🔭
January 16, 2025 at 3:49 AM
Do these also count as moonbows?

It’s not as stunning as the ones from two nights ago, but I’d title the first one “Pillars of Moonbows Creation” if these count 😆

(…hopefully someone else sees the reference too)

Ok if it snows in the next week we need to introduce modern day meteorologists to the wives of old and pirates

Have you ever seen a full moon creating rainbows on the clouds around it? Because I had not and it’s surreal 🤯🌕🔭

I thought my first attempt at seeing a rocket launch was going to be a bust but it was actually preeeetty cool to see the rocket light up through the clouds 🚀🌌

I am working on a collection of stargazing products to encourage astronomy education and exploration! I would love to share my projects and findings with the Astronomy Education and broader groups! I would only post to this feed when discussing the astronomy aspects of my projects

Tried a bunch of prototypes to do two colors or just an outline of the historical version and it’s a dud. BUT I’ve started to add in the IAU defined constellation boundaries and the RA&Declination for finding the stars and I think it’s coming together!! Also PETG is so bendy 😍
December 28, 2024 at 5:17 PM
That’s true! You can see the historical lines visible when you hold it up to a light on the front. Maybe it’ll even show outside
December 23, 2024 at 10:39 PM
Alternatively I could just print them separately and they can be lined up on their own?

I always think stargazing should be so easy and then I spend forever wondering what is actually clear or not 😆

But this historical version as defined by Babylonians is mirrored. Aldebaran (the largest star) now sits at the top if you face the horns in the right direction.

If want the neat-ness of seeing what stars overlap between cultures to outweigh the sky matching issue but I’m unsure
December 22, 2024 at 11:38 PM
So this version of Taurus is oriented correctly…you could look up at the sky and the stars will line up. (And it’d be clearer if I used a smooth plate 😆)
December 22, 2024 at 11:38 PM
I’m prototyping these 3D printed constellation cards where on one side you see a modern representation of it and the back has a historical one.

I love how the matching stars line up and you can compare what’s the same vs not…but this means that one side is mirrored. Will that be too confusing? 🤔

I made these little 3d printed Christmas ornaments for my company holiday party and I find it wild that when I asked ChatGPT to write the alt text for these two images it knew that the second was the glow in the dark frame without any context 🤯😍

Hanging out at someone else’s 3D studio and daydreaming about having my own some day 😍🤩

Ok here to brag because I just saw Taurus, the Pleiades, Orion, Gemini, Aries and Auriga without any tech in NYC 🤯 🌌 ✨

Last most historic vote of my life? 🙏

(PS: vote no on props 2-6 if you’re in NYC!)

Honestly, I’m pretty amazed anything works ever
November 2, 2024 at 8:14 PM
Update: I tried adding in a chamfer to the corners and it helped but not quite enough to avoid a bunch of cleanup/fraying over time. Printing in two pieces will slow down production speed a lot, but I’ll at least give it a shot next!

It stays straight with two thin individual borders around it, so that’s my current plan. But if I can turn it into an actual part of the product vs packaging waste, that would feel awesome.

Ofc it’s terrible to try and have 6” overhangs that I have to clean up after but maybe I can find better 🙏
