Good example! At UT Austin, a computer science major makes 88% more than a foreign language major.
It’s rational for a college student to prefer a major that will lead to higher earnings. As students do that - tuition money follows.

The Post Secondary Outcomes Explorer has a trove of the earnings data by major for hundreds of US Colleges. As you can see here, 10 years after graduation from the University of Colorado, Computer Science graduates earn twice what foreign language graduates make.

Remembering 25 years ago when the Oregon GOP self sabotaged by nominating a wacko in the Governor’s race. The Democrat won by more than 2 to 1 and the GOP only won a single county.
Seems like there’s an obvious lesson there. But apparently not.
