To be clear: I don't think there is widespread concern about organ donation process as a whole. But the gov has put pressure on the procurement companies to essentially "meet quotas" to maintain their contracts and that understandably puts pressure on the companies. That's a big problem.

Some healthcare workers have shared their experiences with this newer method of organ retrieval - worrying that people would have recovered if given more time, or feeling pressured to recommend withdrawal of care. A couple troubling instances of people being alive still when taken back to the OR.

NYT has an article that goes into more detail that I read yesterday. Here is a gift link (idk of WaPo will keep this comment up but I'll try anyway. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/20/u...

Circulatory death is when someone isn't brain dead but is removed from life support because doctors have indicated they won't survive. In these cases there is only a 2 hour time window between when life support is removed and when organs can be retrieved.

I'll elaborate on my comment because coming back and re-reading, I made it sound like circulatory death isn't death. It is. It's not widespread that people's organs are being harvested when they're alive. Not like that at all. 🧵

Here is a gift link so people can read the article before commenting. Easy to criticize RFKJr because he sucks but there is actually some disturbing reporting about this. 30% of organ donors experienced "circulatory death" not brain death. wapo.st/4eXrPUK
Organ retrieval reforms ordered after some donors showed ‘signs of life’
In 28 cases, the government determined, donors may still have been alive when organ procurement procedures began.

Ok so ICE will be charged with murder, right? Louisiana recognizes an unborn child as a human from the moment of conception.

I'll just be going about my day and then randomly remember that the men in power in this country (and my state) don't want me to have bodily autonomy.
