M.Ed. #HigherEd #Admissions #Sociology. Longhorn by way of Philly and A2. Will travel for food.
I used to live in Michigan (A2). Members of my LDS congregation volunteered in droves to help clean up when the dam broke in 2020. It is true that the LDS (esp. those living in Utah) tend to be insular, but my experience in MI was the opposite. I loved the interfaith community in A2 and miss it.

At the Plano rally on Tuesday, at least two attendees cited Mamdani's success as proof that Talarico can bring results in Texas. One was quoted in the Dallas Observer, and one chatted with me while waiting in line.

Reading the last couple lines gave me goosebumps. This is far from over.

Neri Alvarado was living and working in Lewisville (Dallas), not Houston. I've been visiting the bakery to buy arepas since I found out that it's 5 miles away from me.

Deseret News keeps running pro-immigrant opinion pieces, so no, there's not much appetite from SLC leadership for concentration camp optics.

One of the Justices should note that Texas requires hospitals to ask for citizenship status (patients don’t have to respond but not everyone knows this). How many *more* will be afraid to give birth at Texas hospitals if this stands? They’re already avoiding care as it is now. #SistersInLaw

Similar is the story “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas” by Ursula Le Guin. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.

The 200+ orders halting Trump administration policies were a mix of short-term pauses -- reflecting judges' baseline concern about the speed US officials are moving -- and longer-term blocks finding challengers were likely to prevail arguing actions violated US laws

The Elon Musk thing was only relevant because high school students would write their application essays lauding the guy and how they wanted to be just like him. I would always think “oh boy” and now feel vindicated years later…

Mary Sue Coleman was before my time, and also after my time, but she and Lee Bollinger were institutional legends. Schlissel was…meh. Have no idea what’s going on with Ono; he was also after my time so everything I know about him is secondhand. But I hope Michigan finds a true “leader & best” again.
