I didn’t have it in me to buy new Halloween decorations although we always went all out at our home in the Palisades and the boys missed it.

We fire survivors don’t have the bandwidth as we grapple with trying to get back home and many simply don’t have the financial resources.

When we’ve been in dialogue with the families about their furniture, many expressed sadness over not having decorations for the holidays.

It’s not only a matter of $, it’s overwhelming and depressing for beleaguered fire survivors to try to replace a collection they created over many years.

These folks, primarily from Altadena, lost everything in the fires and are struggling to get back on their feet.

If they’re receiving a grant from us, it means they qualified based on multiple criteria (income, number of people in the home, other assistance received, etc). The stories are 💔.

We plan to give each of the families who pick up their free furniture a package of new ornaments and hopefully others with some history.
