This is our flat parking curb standard I mentioned in a previous post
Then flex bollards are spaced 5.5-6m apart to encourage drivers to park properly and maximize the parking usage.
Because if you park right beside one of these, it may hit your door.

It works.

Visited the #BikeAtO Hoskin side this morning.
The new bike signals are in at St George with Leading Bike and Leading Pedestrian intervals in all directions.
New transit platforms, planters, bike boxes and curbs are all in.

A bit more line marking still to go.

These platforms allow TTC vehicles to stop in lane & allow accessible ramp deployments with a more level, consistent boarding for people with disabilities.

The island platforms minimize potential conflicts between pedestrians & people cycling & provide a safer refuge area when exiting vehicles

This last batch includes 2 island style platforms with railings (Bloor/Shaw, Shoreham/Jane), one straight platform (Davisville) and one bidirectional accessible platform (Esplanade).

All bus routes.

Our last batch of #BikeTO modular Zicla accessible platforms was installed over the past week.

We've installed over 40 of these platforms over the past 8y
Many lessons have been learned, a lot of innovation made & some very strong partnerships forged.

Toronto is a winter city leader in this stuff.

We need to wait for road reconstructions in order to remove slip lanes. They tend to hold utilities & are usually attached to the road base

But we can do interim measures to make safety improvements while we wait for the larger opportunities

More pink last night.

Why we leave gaps in curbs along Bikeways

There is a city standard spec for these curbs that specifies gaps every 3m, max.

Winter City Problems.

You can tell it's a refresh by the many smaller 10cm lines making up the larger 60cm line.

This typically isn't required every year in cities that don't have winter
October 29, 2025 at 7:23 PM
This is how line marking refreshes are done with paint.. Typically once or twice a year.

Paint and glass beads are applied over the existing markings to refresh reflectivity.

This is a different process from when the markings are first applied with extruded durable MMA (all my other videos)

It's completed east of Bathurst.

Pink dots are where bollards will go.

The reason the concrete strip is different widths is because the direction we provided to the design consultant was to keep the Bikeway & the vehicle travel lanes consistent widths & put any leftover space in the parking.

This project includes a lot of new green infrastructure. Some are contained planters, some help drain the roadway.
Additional planters on top of the concrete medians that couldn't be planters may be coming in the future.

Most of it will be maintained thru partnerships with local residents groups 🙏🏽

This high capacity curb & truck apron was placed here to accommodate the gas station tankers. This station is now for sale, but has been a gas station for decades.
Sometimes things change between design & delivery 🤷🏽‍♀️

Documenting this in case 20y from now people wonder WTH happened here
October 24, 2025 at 2:22 PM
This is our new parking side curb standard. A level flush curb with bollards every 6m - helps space parked cars properly to maximize parking. People don't want to open their doors into a bollard.

It's on many other projects including Davenport.

The Bikeway still has to be paved here

Took my #BikeTO colleagues on a walk/roll of the newly & under construction Harbord Bikeway yesterday.

Harbord/Hoskin has been a bikeway since 1998, 27 years.

Curbs, planters, accessible platforms.. and so much more.

Adding DTLA to the list of cities using these #BikeTO barriers that were 1st developed in Toronto in 2018 (by me 🫡, I'm told I need to take more credit for things 🤷🏽‍♀️)
⚡Seattle
⚡Atlanta
⚡Boulder
✨Now DTLA

These are 2nd gen ones, we are onto gen 3 here with this nifty addition.

Guess what it's for?
