Happy Friday! Here's a short story I wrote. It’s called “Mesa” and it is about young love, trying to envision the future, how everything seems possible in your early 20s, and an intense metaphysical experience that transformed the narrator’s perspective. I hope you like it!

This poem is about trying to predict the future, and how you probably just have to give up some control. ***** Point A, Plan B A strange choice, in the end. There’s no real way to plan it. You’ll try anyway but none of it will make sense When the moment arrives. Everyone leaves, in the end. I won’t be the first, you won’t be the last. So: What is your plan, for the end? You have to keep following a line, either way. How will you move away from Point A in your broken heart? You’ll be in an unfamiliar landscape, wind-scoured and empty. Can you make your way back to yourself? You can try to arrange it. Make that Plan B, and it might be a comfort to know it’s there in the back of your mind. But it’s the unlikeliest of scenarios. Are you prepared to throw it all out? Are you prepared to go it alone? Don’t worry about me. I won’t need much, in the end. A cup of coffee, a cold morning, a pair of half-closed eyes. The rest doesn’t matter. Point A, Plan B. And as I have said before: Seulette suis, et seulette ne veux pas être. Sometimes those unlikely things can work themselves out in the flow of time.

Look at How Much of Me You Can No Longer See Katy Scott 2025 Look at how much of me you can no longer see. I am made of paper and glass and sheer fucking effort. My structure is angular and clear — grief-hardened silvered bones and soft little puddly places. Am I finally pretty? You’ll never see them, but I have entire oceans living in corners and they repeatedly wash over me with salt and possibilities, leaving me raw, scoured, stinging. That is my constant, my anxiety, that good ol’ default state. It’s not obvious but my skin cannot contain me much longer. Everything — every step, every breath — is a calculation. Can anyone actually see me? If I floated away right now gripping a spider-silk would the space I left behind be visible?

Ask Me Anything Katy Scott 2025 What did you have for breakfast? How does the rain make you feel? How many petals are on this flower? Does she love you, or love you not? Are you happy? I don’t believe you, answer again. Are you happy? Yet you are always so sad. Can two opposing things be true at once? What is wrong with you? You don’t seem sad enough. Why can’t you cry? It’s fine, you shouldn’t. Don’t you understand that people depend on you? You mentioned grief; are you comforted by your grief? Because you seem to be sharing it with everyone. Here’s the real question: Are you really grieving, or do you just want attention? Are you feeling any rage at that question? Do you need to feel some comfort at this point in the questioning? Try to think of something beautiful, familiar, incandescent. Perhaps the night sky, pine scented air on a cold wet morning, that poem about rats’ feet over broken glass? How do you feel about that squeezing hollowness inside of your heart? Is it like: A brokenness you can’t explain? Getting kicked in the chest over and over and you can’t find your breath? Indescribable beauty and heartache existing in the same tight space? Ahh, there it is, there is your answer. There’s the core of it all. Beauty hurts as much as sadness, doesn’t it? Sometimes you can’t stand to look at the stars.

Sometimes I crave a tiny little McDonald's cheeseburger with those minced onions (nostalgia from growing up!) but their food always makes me feel terrible afterwards. So I figured out a way to eat Big Macs whenever I want.

Tweet from the Anti-Defamation League, or ADL: This is a delicate moment. It's a new day and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety. It seems that @elonmusk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge. In this moment, all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath. This is a new beginning. I’ve been working more on this tree. I wish I hadn’t painted all the small branches before I finalized the background, but I know painting the background last around all the other elements is a Grown Up Artist Skill that I never mastered. It’s frustrating but I’m progressing bit by bit. #art
