I'd literally never heard of this until I was pregnant and it was discussed in NCT antenatal classes (UK). It was framed as "you might want to consent to this but some parents don't like the idea of their newborn being injected as a first experience". Absolutely bonkers.

My kid got worked up about the nasal flu spray this year. Getting it "to keep your grandparents safe" went a long way in persuading him.

My baby was weirdly calm about all his jabs. Then he got older and asked the nurse doing his covid jab if it would hurt and she said no. Obviously it did. He's not trusted a nurse since and getting him any more jabs is a nightmare because each one comes with an autistic meltdown. We still get them.
