Snow & sleet due here overnight in the East (Anglia). We had some lovely snow in October a few years back. Made great pics for a xmas card project for youngest son.

I'd say give it a go - I'm finding that tension for me is a little tighter, so I'm adjusting for that. It's going ok & I'm able to switch during a project rather than always swapping projects. Hope it goes well. At one point I had both shoulders frozen. What a faff!

As someone who lives with chronic pain, incl 'knitters shoulder', I sympathise. I find keep changing what I'm knitting helps & I have now started swapping betwen english & continental styles is also paying off. And a bit of ice-packing along the way!

No, these were cable (on my timeline). I used a slightly smaller needle, but the leg has plenty of room so I can't place blame there. I left 4 extra stitches on each foot.

I have to say, my most recent pair of thick socks had me adjusting & I don't have high arches!

Do butt in please! My local shop has some lovely wool/cotton - can't remember the brand, but the colours are lovely and slightly marled. However, the feel and meterage make it more a DK than 4ply/fingering. I may need to seek out others to compare. Thanks.

What do you think of the yarn? I've not used a cotton/wool mix. I tend to find cotton a bit thick. Just wondering how it will wash/wear.

I suspect that you may have put your needle between two stitches rather than through one - I do it sometimes when I'm not really thinking about what I'm doing. I've not done quite what you have, but perhaps caught it more by luck than judgement

I prob need to dig about more. The patterns I have call for me to measure - not happening! Length isn't an issue, just width.

Thanks - these are a surprise, so I can't measure him & males I know don't have that foot size!

I was just thinking about a cowl... may even have some of your yarn to make it in!
November 11, 2025 at 5:17 PM
That is something I'm wondering about. Perhaps with a twist of hot pink.

I do love the design - but I'm not sure I **need** another sweater...

I'll design something, but not sure what. He's a well-dressed chap with his own style - and not afraid to don a blouse, if it suits. I'm wondering if I should do some birds. Not knitted socks with birds on. Or - something maybe a bit more plaid/geometric. Anyway, I'm knitting toe-up, so have time!

I use it for plain socks, but I've done a number of different heels for lacy ones. I usually continue reinforcement just under the heel for everyday socks as I tend to walk a lot and hate darning!
November 8, 2025 at 9:02 PM
Oooh, I don't know the names of heels! I think it might be called a square heel or flap & gusset?
November 8, 2025 at 5:07 PM
Actually no, not quite. The pattern down the sides is slightly different, but close enough! The back & front are the same.
