Besides, I maintain that it is the distinct purview of writers and artists and actual non-baseball-cap-enabled thinkers to get our dunks in where we can, in the beautiful city of New York and larger project of America wherein cultural capital is still not something that can be entirely bought and stripped for parts yet; thus being able to categorically reject an AI company’s attempt to be “cool” and “community-minded” is probably the closest thing to artistic freedom we will have in this decade. So let me reiterate, actually, that I think this shit is so fucking dorky, and anyone who is excited about the “aesthetics” of an AI company reveals a soul so malnourished from lack of exposure to basic facts of experience, sensation, context and yes, TASTE, that a semblance of a gesture toward meaning activates some kind of rhapsodic trip-wire within. Oh my sweet children. I can’t believe you think that’s beauty.

Letterboxd review: The most romantic movie I’ve seen this year. I could not have loved this more. It is begging to be an annual holiday rewatch: cozy and funny and morose and life-affirming, even sexy. Harold and Maude but the Harold is an impossibly charming, bearish ne’er-do-well who is trying very, very hard to do something, anything right. Of course I’m a goner. Very special, please seek this one out.

They’re shooting tonight. Whole street dressed with period cars, all the parking meters switched out to coin-op only, they added some phone booths. Was running errands and didn’t see much action other than boom ops and a piece of set being wheeled around.

Oh my god Eva Victor I feel so seen. My hottest take is that I don’t like birds, specifically, when birds are close to me (I think I watched THE BIRDS too much as a young person)
LOVING SOMETHING FROM AFAR AND NOT NEEDING TO CHANGE THAT. For example, I do not feel so comfortable with birds when they’re nearby. I don’t like how the head moves, and I don’t want it to land on my head, peck my eyes out, etcetera. That said, when I look up at the sky and birds are flying together in a beautiful shape, that could make me cry. So to me, that’s interesting.

So here we are 140 days into Trump’s second presidency. The political and cultural alliance he built up during his campaign is fractured. And activists have finally figured out how generate attention. So it’s safe to expect more direct action against ICE raids across the country this summer. And it’s also safe to expect they’re going to escalate in intensity, on both sides. Because right now, thanks to our broken media landscape, the only battle worth fighting is for attention. The Trump administration has consolidated power extremely quickly and our opposition party is more interested in viral stunts and book deals. There isn’t much that can be done other that protesting and mutual aid. But now, with Trump’s influencer army in disarray, there’s an opening, at least for eyeballs. Which is why there’s no point debating the ethics or optics of violent or non-violent protest. The only thing anyone average person can do is make as much noise as possible. And it’s going to be one hell of a noisy summer.

I’m a trash raccoon 🦝 and I’m endlessly fascinated by the Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich collab/marriage. My review of IN THE LOST LANDS: azdailysun.com/entertainmen...
“In the Lost Lands” is likely not destined to be a cult classic but by the time Jovovich and Bautista are fighting a bunch of skeletons in an abandoned nuclear power plant, its boneheaded charm reaches the only apex it might find. The rest is a race to the finish of predictable twists, pixelated clashes and po-faced line readings. Is this a real movie? I’m not entirely certain, and I certainly can’t recommend watching it. But I am amused by the bizarre Anderson-Jovovich oeuvre and hope they keep cranking them out.
