Something I'd like to request from comics reviews editors is to be more judicious when it comes to publishing criticism about the work of young female artists working outside of the stylistic conventions of Western comics. Is the art actually unimpressive, or is it just not to the reviewer's taste?

I'm frustrated as a writer, of course, but I'm also saddened as someone who loves going to the bookstore and buying novels. How much amazing work am I never going to read because the author is writing for an unfamiliar fandom, or they resigned their story to the void of self-publishing on Amazon?

Don't get me wrong - I love fanfic!! Still, you'd think a solid midlist author who publishes a popular novel with hundreds of positive reviews every two years would be able to find a place in the publishing industry, and it's disheartening that so many people like me are so completely shut out.

I've been slowly going through these recs, and they are indeed legitimately good. What a joy to experience such strange and interesting art ☕️
