it is, however, a moral failing to expect my mom, and other people who have manageable but substantial medical vulnerabilities, to always stay home to mitigate serious risks to their life an health.

If i can get one person to do covid tests before meeting up by sharing, it's very worth it.

it is not a moral failing to get covid in a society that's decided it expects workers to die more painfully and sooner than otherwise, either directly or indirectly from a pathogen the world health organization identifies as airborne.

i can't tell you what to do, but it's worth it to avoid the short-term hassle in every sense i can think of, even if you aren't "vulnerable". hopefully i won't be the first to tell you, but long-term, covid is worth avoiding too, with more infections stacking up systemic damage in your body

so please, test before meeting up with people if at all possible. I know tests in the US are not cheap (the best deal I've been able to find is still $6 or $7 per test), but covid itself is EXPENSIVE. (doctor's appointment, three full days of missed work and PTO spent, meds (Paxlovid))

I did another rapid covid test, which also showed positive. And the kicker was, i didn't even feel all that badly. headache, a little scratchiness in my throat.

As ever, in advance of any meetup where i intend to be unmasked, i did a rapid test in the morning to avoid any rushed tests later as I was going to my parents'. (still thursday) i could see a 'sample' line show up before it was even done processing. I believed the positive, but I wanted to be sure

as i stepped out of a late work meeting, i didn't think anything of this. i wear a respirator indoors at all times unless i'm with people who have also done rapid covid tests before we meet up, as i also do.

Thursday, i felt pretty normal, nothing wild, just a mild headache & throat scratchiness

takes so far:
-Long covid is real and masking and precautions are not a thing of the past
-losing faith in your community because they couldn't be arsed to mask or inconvenience themselves one bit to protect themselves or their community
