I asked if I could take his picture. Yes. I stepped across a band of shit. The pigeons began to frighten. Too close. A cloud of gray & blue & pink rushed at me. He looked up. Bare of birds. He said nothing. I stepped back. The birds returned. Together they ate. He said “Now,” & I took my picture.
In a red brick arch under a bridge, a middle-aged blond man receives the ministrations of pigeons.
