l've finished teaching my class on the void to a very bright group of spirited beings! The void found at the heart of being, the void that promises an escape, the void that we weave into our very subjectivity: it is the void that we find at the heart of being, thought, and freedom. 🚀 Thanks to GCAS!

I’m very excited to share that I’ll be teaching a course titled, “The Void,” this September at GCAS. There is an early bird discount available now for auditors..! 🚀

We’ll read Hegel & Badiou with support from Lucretius & Dolar in investigating the paradoxical potential of the void.

"While intelligence is always artificial, AI is, in actuality, not artificial enough to be labelled “intelligent.”

This is a great read!

My new essay: "Intelligence Is Always Artificial."

Can intelligence ever be natural? Per Hegel, intelligence is that which *denaturalizes.* It is a self-alienation that operates around a subjectifying gap. AI, in its immediacy, isn't *artificial enough* to be called intelligent.

Thinking about the pull of absence and the openness of the void, I find myself returning to @katherineveritt.bsky.social's essay—A Throw of the Dice Through Space—in itself a wonderful act of placing, a gesture toward the other: to say yes; to fall together.

How can thinking political space open up avenues for emancipation? Check out this conversation between Helen Rollins and myself to hear our thoughts. An interview for @everydayanalysis.bsky.social.

"Where does place end?"

Such a lovely question to reflect upon on an empty Sunday afternoon. Katherine takes 9 Rothko's as placemarks to find place in space.
I am so honored to share this essay, "A Throw of the Dice through Space," published in 'Socrates on the Beach' by @greggerkesocrates.bsky.social.

It may be my favorite text I've written.

“We hurdle toward each other. A star appears beneath us. The perfect triangulation: you, me, and the star beneath our feet. This is what we need: a star to drive our stake into the ground.”

@katherineveritt.bsky.social's essay reminds me of this encounter. ☄️

I gave a talk on Hegelian space today, and was SO pleased to receive the q: what is digital space?

As I’ve been using Bluesky to reflect on the digital… my initial answer to this q, is that it is an extension of spirited space with a material excess, a space of feedback & feedback loops…

On Monday, I join the Philosophy Portal to ask what space can teach us about the Lacanian real, particularly the pre-symbolic real of nature. Per the Chiesa/Žižek debate on "animistic" motion, I argue that with space-itself we can answer the provocative question: does the real move? 💥
I join Philosophy Portal on Dec 16 to discuss my work on space as it relates to the Lacanian real. Particularly, I examine the substantiation of nothingness in the naming of space, tracing the mark of the real underpinning this paradox. Hit the link in bio to register! 🚀

“Cybernetics” comes from “κυβερνήτης” — the helmsman, from “κῠβερνάω” meaning to steer, direct, guide, govern. 🌊🌊🌊
