i don't tend to initiate smalltalk but i think that if a stranger brings up the weather the fact that my perspective on it is reasonably likely to differ from theirs helps turn that into an actual conversation

the vibes certainly matter but also i frequently walk to places that are over an hour away, or if i take the bus to the big library downtown i will end up walking to a bunch of different places near there

Honestly sometimes. Like if the weather has been particularly shitty, particularly, nice, unseasonable, first big snowfall of the year etc. That last one especially is downright exciting for me personally

In retrospect everything I learned in special ed feels like some "we purposely taught her wrong, as a joke" shit. Only part of my reply that's not quite from personal experience is that I figured most of that out by my mid-20s

I'd also add that many of these learned assumptions about how other people are feeling/reacting are significantly more likely to be true in grade school and a lot of autistic people can get stuck in them and make it well into their 30s assuming middle school dynamics still apply 100% of the time

i'd maybe understand if the apparent motive was that ending some amount of suffering now takes priority over more long-term concerns. i'd even accept being accused of cynical electoralism for this take. but the dems who most loudly want to cave are all cynical careerists themselves?
