In less than two weeks at TIFF I'll be orbitting @leungmingkai.bsky.social and (much more distantly) the most spectacular star in the firmament, Fan Bingbing, and I know I should lay low, but I feel like Fan Bingbing would appreciate this Riddler blazer I've been eyeing since 2012

Trump and his ilk are scared because they can't handle competition. They aren't smart, charming, or disciplined enough to hold their own in an open market. If the US achieved an even playing field after centuries of giving breaks to straight white men, those Immortan-ass Joes know they would lose.

This was my dad's last email to my brother and me before he died of ALS. He was kind; politically engaged; curious and eager to learn, despite being a professor. These qualities kept him young unto death. He was also a great friend. I hope that all of us can be more like Frank Reilly in these ways.

I have always said Wim Wenders is very obviously a rich kid cosplaying as a man of the people in damaging ways. I feel vindicated

The great Ann Hui wrote @leungmingkai.bsky.social’s film-school recommendation, which allowed me to meet him in New York, where he showed me Ann’s Ordinary Heroes, the film that made me want to direct. Thank you to Ann for literally everything!

Happy Year of the Snake, a year of wood and fire, from the escalators in Johnnie To’s 鎗火 The Mission! According to Chinese mythology, the snake cheated to get ahead in a race among animals by catching a ride on the horse’s hoof, then scaring the horse as they were about to cross the finish line. …

翁子光 Philip Yung's 爸爸 PAPA is my favorite Hong Kong film in a long time. I don't want to say too much. But it so effectively depicts and sweeps you up in the experience of revisiting family memories. Also, young cast member 蘇文濤 Dylan So gives one of the best performances I've ever seen. And this cat!
