Reader of books, anxious of mind
I fucking hate this book, so trust your gut on this one. If you feel off about it, there’s a reason for it. Or several.

Not insecure, but maybe it just doesn’t work for you as a reader, and that’s totally okay! Plenty of people either don’t like it or get the ick from it. I think it’s really nice that you’re able to have this introspection and can reflect on what you like and what you don’t in the books you read.

I think it depends.
The album Haunted by Poe, was written in part to be read with her brother book (House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski). A tandem read/listen in that case would heighten the experience.
Overall, I think instrumentals work, but everything else is case by case.

So far I’m enjoying it.
The narration switches between present and past tense (intentionally), which takes some time to get used to, but it’s not so bad or distracting as to be unreadable.

Brandon Sanderson has some middle grade and YA series (Skyward, The Reckoners, Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians) as well as series that toe the line between YA and adult fantasy like Mistborn, Tress of the Emerald Sea, and Yumi...

If they can do LOTR, Sanderson shouldn’t be a problem.

The art on the cover got me to pick it up at my local library, with the summary making me want to give it a chance and check it out

Happy Halloween from Inara. She also doesn’t like costumes. I took this picture ~10 years ago by holding a headband over her and very quickly snapping a photo.

It’s probably the best picture of her I’ve ever taken

I appreciate him as an author, but also as a person from what little I know about him. He’s not perfect, none of us are, but he also acknowledges his flaws and works to be better. I enjoy seeing how his writing has progressed over the years and I enjoy the stories he tells.

For me, it adds humor and dimension to his character. And maybe he has kids of his own (that I can recall anyway), we don’t really know much about him, but as a childfree person I felt very seen by this small interaction.

There are the classics, but I love in WaT where he expresses fear of parenting.
“To be fair…a great number of things terrify me. I mean, have you considered, really considered, how insane it is that society trusts you mortals with children? After..what, two decades of life..?” (condensed to fit)

At first, I wasn’t sure if I had an answer to this question, but then my brain went “Hoid!”

So uh, yeah. I guess my favorite character is Hoid/Wit from Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere novels.

It can be a lot, but one step at a time.
If you would like any advice or help, feel free to DM me. I planned my wedding in 6 months (engaged at the end of November, started planning January, married in June), and overall found the entire process really enjoyable.

You’ve got this! 💪
