I feel like we’ve all gathered around to share coffee (or tea! if that’s more your thing) and decompress after a tough week, and I just wanted to say I’m happy to be here in such kind company.

In all our winning, we have lost Jesus. In all our self-congratulations, we have lost our souls.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” -Theodore Roosevelt

RONALD REAGAN (1988): We should be aware of the demagogues who are ready to declare a trade war against our friends, weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world—all while cynically waving the American flag.

Composure, Saints! This is a vital witness to our faith in Christ in any era of chaos.

Upon waking, let us meet with Jesus and trade our fear & anger for his courage & compassion.

Rely on God.
Read Scripture.
Be brave.
Pray valiantly.
Act like grownups.
Help the hurting.
Love defiantly.

Oh, one more thing.

Healthy leadership isn’t mean. It doesn’t make people pawns in a self-centered, self-absorbed power game.

Jesus would never.

The thing is, I feel like if someone truly, accidentally, & unintentionally made a n*zi salute on a national stage, they would be appropriately horrified by it and apologize. And when they don’t ….. it says everything.

When we Christians are more known for our support of presidents than we are for our support of the poor, the immigrant, the marginalized, and the oppressed, that is when we know we are following someone other than Jesus and we have a lot of repenting to do.

It is amazing, once one gets outside of the conservative evangelical bubble, how many folks with a more liberal view toward social issues have their views rooted in a deep understanding of Christian faith.

Yet in that bubble your faith is questioned if you don’t toe the conservative line.
