The NYT is confusing things to try to frame a story. Adding oranges to your apples does not give you more apples. Their own chart shows that interior deportations were HIGHER UNDER TRUMP.

This is data is pretty consistent with my experiences talking to people who support mass deportation in Arizona. They support humanitarian immigration policies, but are susceptible to narratives that position immigration as a public safety issue. The result is: “deport them all, except…”
