Pretty sure they have been deforested. My guess is that there was a different vegetation where soil was especially rich in a mineral - or even coloured streams: we have them here in the Forest of Dean.

The smell of the distant chicken farm tells me when the wind is exactly South West by South - though here it's wet weather that really ripens the smell

Daughter (who tf has a job herself, at least) spent a frustrating week trying and failing to train an AI to do the job a person could do in a couple of hours tops. Client was convinced AI would be cheaper 🙄. I'm just hoping daughter's employer will be billing very clearly wrt those hours. So stupid.

We gave in and got mulled wine from the Christmas Market yesterday (despite oh grumbling"there's still leaves on the trees" etc). Now that's out of the way feel I can get stuck into October's to do list. Recommend.

Particularly enraging that the carers are so criminally underpaid. I would challenge every one of these fat cats to rise to the challenge that carers meet every working day. I simply cannot praise what they do highly enough. To see them robbed like this makes me want to weep.

Such an important point. The newspaper that most closely aligns with my political views still annoys me *because* it takes those views for granted and assumes I share them. There's a lazy smugness there that I find icky - it diminishes the value of its reporting in my eyes.

Very interesting and very depressing - thank you for sharing.

Also I'm right under one of the red dots on that map, which makes sense (though is that a map of lichens, or simply a map of lichen geeks...? 🤔)
