Dog loving knitter ( no I don’t knit with my dogs hair) living in south west of England
I never saw a starling where I lived for 20 years in garden, edge of small market town S. Wiltshire ‘70s estate. Now moved to N. Wiltshire ‘70s estate rural area I constantly see them. Garden, large tree just outside house chattering away and enjoying splashing in puddles in summer. A joy to watch

That’s just so sad. My gt grandmother’s first husband’s surname was Donovan he was a member of a Lancashire regiment. Can’t remember off hand which one.

Thank you. Fortunately my great grandmother remarried and went on to have 5 more children one being my grandmother, who did visit Malta with my mother. They laid some flowers at his marked grave on behalf of Auntie Ellen and took photographs for her.

Which is why in the past I chose a white poppy. In memory of my gt grandmother, lost her 1st husband in WW1 leaving her with 2 children the youngest 2 yrs old my great aunt and godmother Ellen. Never saw her father’s grave on Malta. He was graveley injured at Gallipoli died & buried on Malta.

Also the over promoted prick, Cummings part of a govt of over promoted pricks - Hancock and co, showing a complete lack of irony.

She didn’t defect she was elected as Labour then became an independent and has now joined the Greens. She needs to make her mind up, if I had voted for her I’d be furious.

How can you defect from being an independent?

Oh the cutting out is the worst. Cut the pattern out, fine. After a bit of faffing and making sure I’ve got fabric the right way round and will have a pair of sleeves not 2 left sleeves, all pinned to fabric. Then look at it for at least a day to pluck up the courage to cut it out.

That’s clever. Saw your post while sitting here prevaricating about getting the sewing machine out. I have a fully cut out dress sitting on the dining table and just not feeling the sewing vibes today.

For years I called an elderly lady in our street Aunt Susie thinking we were weren’t actually related and we just called her that. Found out as an adult she was actually my grandmother’s aunt (her mother’s sister) so actually my great, great aunt.

When I make turkey broth after Christmas I always add some shredded sprouts at the end.

Quite a bit to unpack from one reasonably short paragraph.

Try it without a passport. I was born here and have just gone through this process. Govt document with NI number, birth certificate, marriage certificate and a character reference for a job I left 3 weeks ago, contract ended, they then asked me back when someone else resigned.

This is for a job I left 3 weeks ago bcs contract ended, they then asked me back as someone resigned. I also needed a character witness to prove I was who I said I was. Quite honestly I’d like some form of photo ID.

Majority of jobs now do online identity checks and ask for a passport presuming you have one. I don’t so I’ve had to photograph my birth certificate and marriage certificate both of which are the old fashioned size not A4 I’m then told they can’t confirm my identity from these documents.

It’s 1999 and my mother trying to call me after 6pm bcs it was cheaper and saying you were on a long call. Me using the internet after 6pm bcs the landline was cheaper after 6pm.

I am envious. Had a beautiful crab apple tree and made it every year until we moved house in February to a garden with no trees. One of those flat, wall to wall grass gardens. Planted an apple, plum, cherry and hazel this year still room for a pear and could squeeze in a small crab apple

Except one of those doing the banishing is a black women who has chosen those to be ejected.

His obvious excuse for having no knowledge of English teams being banned from European competitions for 5 years after nearly 40 people died in the Heysel stadium in 1985.

I actually think he couldn’t care less. I also think some other stuff about him but my account may get suspended if I shared it. But certainly a nasty piece of work.

😂 yes I do, me leaving the house, “sorry bees, sorry”. Me coming back to the house “excuse me bees, sorry”
October 11, 2025 at 7:49 PM
That’s interesting my ceanothus is on its third flowering here in southwest England. First was very early spring, then it’s main show - next to front gate so was apologising to bees every time I brushed against it disturbing them.

So a quick explanation and saying they do look lovely in the house this time of year. Not sure where the lecture was, But hey ho I won’t darken your doorstep again with a lecture. Have a lovely evening.
October 11, 2025 at 6:19 PM
You should really leave them until next spring. The dry flowers from this summer protect the flower buds forming for next spring from frost. Mine will stay like this until next March/April. But the drying flowers do look lovely in the house at this time of year.
