Jacinta Allan's draconian approach is eroding people's rights, is not making us safer, and diverts resources from what actually works. (3/3)

Recent data on police racial profiling confirms that First Nations and other people of colour are disproportionately targeted by police - unaccountable powers like this will hit them hardest. We also know they're ineffective - only 1% of these searches find illicit items (2/3)

This is a fantastic boost, but there's a lot more investment needed for walking, cycling and public transport - across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

If Labor was serious about community safety, they'd invest in preventing harm before it happens, not in locking up kids for life.

Instead, Labor is cutting funding to crime prevention, mental health and youth services - the very supports that keep communities safe. (2/2)

Cutting crime prevention programs while crowing about locking up kids for life - just to win votes - is a new low for Labor and Premier Jacinta Allan.

Experts in youth crime are reeling after Labor's announcement yesterday (that some 14 year olds could be sent to prison for 20 years to life) because they’ve been crying out for Labor to invest in programs that work to reduce crime. Instead, Labor has cut them.

We need a smarter approach that invests in prevention & early interventions that are proven to work.

If Labor was serious about keeping communities safe, they’d invest in these programs - not import failed Liberal policies from Queensland. (4/4)

Meanwhile, Labor has been cutting funding to programs that actually work.

Crime prevention funding has been slashed in half in the last two years alone - while critical mental health and youth services continue to be starved of funding. (3/4)

Multiple experts have found that harsher and longer sentences are linked to more reoffending and worse long term outcomes for young people.

They don't fix the problem - they make it worse. (2/4)
