Advent Calendar of Mortality History - Door 2 💀🎄: A winged memento mori skull stares out from the memorial of Elizabeth Bacheler, wife of Alderman John Bacheler of Bristol who died 21st August 1683. The memorial can be found in the majestic St Mary Redcliffe. #skystorians
A winged skull carved from stone. The skull has a pair of wings that join beneath it. The skull stares away from us into the distance and there are gaps in its two rows of teeth. The memorial to Elizabeth Bacheler. A long and tall carved stone memorial with a skull at the bottom, putti heads middle of the way up and a spiralling border around its edges. Text is inscribed on the middle identifying Elizabeth Bacheler and explaining her heritage as the daughter of Giles Combe of Somerset. It tells us that her husband Giles Bacheler was responsible for the memorial.
