The overall idea was cute, but the storytelling style lost me very early on. I don't remember why I read this, I don't know why I finished this and I probably won't even remember reading this a year from now.

Yeah, this is a Junji Ito work. As always, quality varies, but there were some interesting ideas (the story about cycle of familial abuse & obsession with beauty was interesting). Much better than The Liminal Zone sequel, but nothing new really. Yet I grab a new release from the library every time.

This series go to the category of "clearly YA" but it's fine, had fun. Some of the character writing was good (I liked the last chapters a lot, everyone was having a bad time) and some bad. But it's fine. I've been eyeing the author's other series without knowing it's hers, will read that too!

This has its highs & lows, but I'd say my overall experience was positive! Scifi is a niche in shoujo so it's always nice to read. The author clearly put a lot of effort into the world building, I wish we could have gone even deeper. Liked the message of humanity always having hope for the future.

While I think the overall to do list/red flags to look out for isn't bad, the construction of this work isn't very good. Not a single source sited, no bibliography. This was very USA centric, but this was written for the post 2016 elections America, so I guess it's meant to be so.

Fantastic analysis, especially for something this short (and what is originally a lecture). This isn't the most beginner friendly introduction to the subject, but a good read nonetheless. Infuriating how this is still relevant today.

Finally got my copy of shoujo manga magazine Betsucomi's 55th anniversary artbook! It features art from several series in the magazine, like Moto Hagio's The Poe Clan, Akimi Yoshida's Banana Fish, Yumi Tamura's Basara, Taeko Watanabe's Kaze Hikaru & Hinako Ashihara's Sand Chronicles

I adored this series. The way it talks about understanding, love, freedom and family is really heartwarming. To record someone's story is to listen, to listen is to understand & to understand is to love. Meeting your fellow human and remembering the good & the bad is what it means to live.

This is one of the best manga I've ever read. The worldbuilding is immersive & the character writing is excellent. My only complaint is about the occasional nods to otaku culture (jokes about sister complex etc.) as they really take the reader out of the story. But otherwise perfect, 5 stars!!

I need to get my thoughts in order to write a longer Children of the Whales review but what I will say of the ending is that I almost dropped my book when reading this (HEAVY Children of the Whales spoilers) ("strong friendship for the rest of their lives" I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE)

Wasted potential. The afterword was actually good at leaving an uneasy atmosphere, but everything else fell flat. The story was bad & there wasn't really any payoff, all was just explained immediately. I applaud the author for challenging the form of a novel but they failed, this just doesn't work.

Fun little short stories. They work very well, they have clear structure & the storytelling is easy to follow. While I had a clear favorite (the last story!) I don't really have that much to say about these other than that they were nice. The author however seems promising, I hope they keep writing!

Reread of an old favorite. This time Anna Liisa's trauma stood out a lot more. She's not shy & quiet naturally, nor is she evil, men & the society got her where she is. And she still has the strength to take accountability of her own crime.

Also Mikko SUCKS I hope he rots.

All in all, the anime did what it was supposed to: got me interested to read the manga. However, this is an early series written before Basara, which I haven't read. I'm sure Tamura is able to examine the story details I found interesting much more in debth in a longer series, so I'll read Basara!

As it's probably clear, this is a 2 episode OVA series (44mins per episode) so the budget isn't high. When it's bad it's not good, but there're moments when the staff got very creative, which stood out and I really liked!

Wached Tomoe's Run! (Tomoe ga Yuku! 1991) based on shoujo manga legend Yumi Tamura's manga of the same name. A 2 ep anime is not an ideal way to experience an 8 volume series, but this is still has thought out character arcs, interesting relationships and clever direction work.

As popular as BL is online, a lot of it is only one volume long in Japan and rarely gets sequels. If you can find multi volume BL, you're in luck! But that also means there's a lot of variety. BL is diverse so there's something for everyone! (+ 1 more rec)

Non-BL answer is LOGH (haven't finished it but the shipping possibilities are endless and it's Gundam's sister fandom). Bravern too was fun, if you want mecha!

Otherwise these are the ones I like (check tw's if needed!):

Author was unhappy how this was "only" a literature review and not a "proper" work of research, but for someone like me who has no knowledge of the topic, this was a blast! There's a lot in history/literature/world religions that I don't know & this opened new doors. Easy to read, I learned a lot!

The author paints a hopeful yet unpleasant future at the same time and that's honestly very well done, especially for a one shot! Actually very nice debut, hopefully we'll see more in the future. I'm glad I opened manga+ today lol

I actually REALLY liked this!! Great story flow and paneling! The inner feelings of the characters were shown very well and I loved the ocean motif! Changes in time were also done very well. This really was like the ocean waves, gently going back and forth. Great work!

I care about them....

This deals rather well with its message on parenhood, children's rights, family and abuse, and how government and legislation plays into it all. Honestly my only problems were a bit cliché character writing. But otherwise a good read!

While I liked The Devil's Grip more, this is still a good read. It's interesting how divinity & carnality are usually separated, while here the line is almost blurred, or overlapping. I need to get my thoughts in order to properly review this, which means this made me think & thus it's a good book!

The sequel seems unfinished. I don't mind a new storyline or a new character, but it felt forced and the conclusion didn't feel natural or satisfying. Felt like the mangaka had to write _something_ to get the needed story beats happen. This needed to either be longer or have another angle entirely.
