The hardest part about public health is that when we succeed, there's no crisis, no epidemic. People carry on with daily life, unaware of a near-miss. We may never know how bad it could have been - because our public health workforce is always taking action to avoid, prevent, and control threats.

The CFPB was dismantled over the weekend, with all activities suspended, its funding reduced to zero, and its headquarters temporarily closed—removing a crucial layer of oversight for consumer-facing financial companies. Staff members ordered to cease all ‘supervision and examination activities.

USAID foreign aid spending is ~ 1% of the federal budget. USAID not only provides life saving food and medicine to millions, it protects our health by funding pandemic preparedness, and fighting narcotics’ trade. If you’re looking to cut “waste” look elsewhere.

What the data says about U.S. foreign aid
The $71.9 billion in foreign aid that the government spent in fiscal year 2023 works out to 1.2% of that year’s total federal spending.

And who determines what the executive’s legitimate power is, JD? The executive?! Come on.

Let me put it in terms you’d get. It’s like football. The judges are the refs, and they say whether you’re in or out of bounds. And Musk is waaaaaay out of bounds with these takeovers of our systems.

🚨RED ALERT for 🧪:

The Trump NIH just gashed indirect costs. This is a direct attack on universities.

“Pursuant to this Supplemental Guidance, there will be a standard rate of 15% across all NIH grants for indirect costs.” 😮

Just a devastating Friday night news dump. #scicomm #academicaky

We need to call out the blatant lie being pushed by the Trump administration—that Elon’s staffers have only “read-only” access. It has been confirmed across departments that they have “administrative” access to computer systems.

Have you been asked, as a federal worker, to do something you don't want to do? But they won't put it in writing?

DON'T DO IT.

If they're going to punish you? MAKE THEM PUT IT IN WRITING. ALL OF IT.

Document, document, document.

Act confused. Be confused! Go slow. Require clarity. Lots. Document

Hi fed friends. A few things to keep in mind:

Keep an eye out for new software on your computers
Assume that your gov devices are being monitored
Assume calls are being recorded and chats reviewed

Ok. Have a great paranoia-free evening!

But seriously. Be smart. Keep calm and carry on. ☕

Pep talk time. For some of us this is incredibly new. For others, painfully familiar. Because we the people have been here before. Pushing back against government, systems, and even each other. Open a history book. Look at whose shoulders we have been standing on.

Losing NOAA would be devastating. Project 2025 authors want to get rid of it because it monitors climate change, and privatize the information it currently provides for free, so you'll have to buy information about the weather and the winds (imperative for mariners).
