"What I'm really aiming at is to become one with the song. It's not acting. In acting, aren't you conscious of being separate from whet you're doing?" — Marianne Faithfull
Watching Jane Pollard & Iain Forsyth's forthcoming Marianne Faithfull doc, Broken English and I love that they choose this as the first track to represent early Marianne. It's such a perfect cover. Donovan is the observer but MP is completely inside the song. youtu.be/3fp0wo3qA1c?...

RIP Mark Volman (The Turtles, Flo & Eddie)
One of my favorite turtles songs Is “Elenore.” It’s not one that always comes up, but I think it’s amazingly sophisticated pop.

White folks are like, “The new Pope never claimed his African ancestry. Why are Black folks so happy?”

Meanwhile Black folks are like, “His mama ‘nem from New Orleans—I know Bruh Pope Leo got that FIRE gumbo recipe!”

I didn’t give a wit about new pope coverage, but the first American pope being a man with Black ancestry born in Chicago by way of New Orleans by way of Haiti. Names his self after the pope who condemned slavery? In the Trump era? Oh, baebae, I am HERE for it.

Pope Leo XIV's grandparents were 7th Ward Creoles
The newly elected pontiff, born in Chicago, has ancestral ties to the city’s historic Seventh Ward, according to genealogists at The Historic New Orleans Collection.
