📚💙 I’ve just finished Cause for Alarm by Eric Ambler. An early example of the spy genre from the 30s, an engineer takes a job running an armaments business in Italy as the shadows of war wrap around the continent. With spies and fascists all around he has little choice but to respond.

💙📚 Sitting in Turkey sunning through a redundancy so what better book to read than Death in the Air, Ram Murali. Darkly humorous, morally more ambiguous than usual crime fiction, the protagonist is going through his own forced departure from a company.

💙📚 Back in Turkey, reunited with my books here, it seems a good time to look at those about this incredible country. Technically, the history of the Crimea is not Turkey but Turkic but a truly thrilling read relevant to today.

After the 20 day challenge 💙📚 I feel a responsibility to the books that didn't get the love. Germinale I remember reading at 11. The images of being overcome by the heat of the mines and the squashing of people into small rooms to live seared me so I remember them decades later.
