Here is my mom, the lady who raised my brother and me as a single mother after my dad died when I was a baby. She loved to laugh and was one of the kindest people I ever met. After she died so many people reached out to tell me the impact she had on them. She taught me so much and I miss her

Success! A batch of pillow cookies made. None burned, and they taste like a bite of holiday heaven. Minimal swearing and just one glass of wine drunk. They may not be super fancy but they are truly the taste of warm Christmases past, and precious time spent with the ones you love.

Pillows need some decorating and sparkle so a little colored sugar is sprinkled on top. Pop into the oven and bake 15 minutes at 375

Top layer on! Now pinch the dough together and make sure to press between the bars. See? Looking like little pillows. Of course most pillows don’t have grooves in them but work with me here.

Okay! This cookie press if more ergonomic than the ancient torture device I’ve been using. First layer done

I bought a new cookie press last year after our globby pillow disaster. And Hershey bars are the only way to fill the pillows.

So cookie making report card. I pulled out the ancient cookie book and my mother’s recipe book. The pages are tattered and delicate but the treasures within are amazing. And the Momm y on the book are from the glorious days of playing with her label maker—I can spell better now.
