When I was young, I thought that when someone in a TV show or movie asked “Are you wearing a wire?” it meant “an underwire bra”
Whenever they asked women characters I was shocked at how rude and intrusive a question it was, but it did make scenes where they asked men that much more interesting

They are all extremely beat up 😂. Everyone has a limp or missing limb or scars. If they aren't missing part of an ear, what's the point?? lol Anyone with smooth skin and symmetrical features is considered a rarity. Modern media has given us a real sea of bland "pretty" that all looks the same
I think that this is important for why your books are often so hot. There is a continual sense that characters notice small, specific, idiosyncratic physical details about others, and those are the things that trigger attraction. It feels the way attraction does for me in real life.

I almost always have a scene early in the book where bunch of people sit around a table and talk about what the plot actually is. Caught myself at it again tonight and moved it to a church instead so it would do triple duty as worldbuilding and add conflict. Every scene does 3 things or out it goes
