I can definitely see Peter is somewhat exhausted but I guess a better way to describe it than mentor/pupil is parent/overeager child. Which I can say from experience is exhausting but usually endearing. I didn’t read Peter as annoyed enough that I was also annoyed. Different strokes and all that.

I read it much more like he can’t keep up with Miles’ enthusiasm, combined with trying to help Miles avoid the mistakes he made.

I certainly won’t lie and pretend there isn’t nostalgia playing a part. But I think it just has this very magical feeling of “Oh, they cracked this immediately” and the later 3D titles are just iterating (in mostly good ways!) on an already perfect recipe.
