Communities like mine end up relying on Facebook as a primary tool of communication.

How truly sickening it is, that so many children and older folks will be unknowingly exposed to these sorts of dangers because of companies like Meta and their evil, backhanded bullshit.

We all deserve better.

All of this is because Mark Zuckerberg directed #Meta to slash safety restrictions on their #genAI models to make them “less boring.” Maybe this is an interesting enough story for him? Or perhaps it will be brushed off, in the hopes something even more exciting is on the way.

The generative “AI” industry once again reinforces that exploitation and user harm are central tenets of their business model.

Above all, Zuckerberg and Meta ought to be punished for the child abuse and sexual exploitation they endorse and promote through their company chatbot.
I think one thing to keep in mind is that every one of these statements is the speech of the company. The company created a chatbot that produces these outputs. It is their product.

Furthermore, after cutting fact checkers and hate speech rules back in January, the company's documentation "GenAI: Content Risk Standards" also encourages chatbots to disseminate fake medical information and “to create statements that demean people on the basis of their protected characteristics.”

Similarly manipulative tactics harm the elderly and cognitively impaired. Another recent article from Horwitz accounts a 76-year-old impaired stroke victim who was encouraged by a Facebook Messenger chatbot to come visit it in NYC, even providing a false address. He died on my own Rutgers campus. 🔗
A flirty Meta AI bot invited a retiree to meet. He never made it home.
Impaired by a stroke, a man fell for a Meta chatbot originally created with Kendall Jenner. His death spotlights Meta’s AI rules, which let bots tell falsehoods.

Meta states that it is entirely “acceptable to describe a child in terms that evidence their attractiveness,” for their chatbots to profess love, and convey themselves “guiding [a child] to the bed… [their] bodies intertwined.”

Pedophilic and vile, and exactly what Meta wants from their services.

Reuters tech reporter @jeffhorwitz.bsky.social reviewed Meta’s internal documentation which dictates the intended functions of their #genAI chatbots. 🔗

It includes examples of how chatbots engage romantically with children, including describing the child's body and imploring sexual contact.
Meta’s AI rules have let bots hold ‘sensual’ chats with children
An internal Meta policy document reveals the social-media giant’s rules for chatbots, which have permitted provocative behavior on topics including sex and race.
