This is absolutely important to note: I've seen multiple sources talking about companies forcing A.I. on users to justify their investment. I would like the option to uninstall/disable it on my devices. I've held off on a new laptop for this reason.
I'm putting together a slide illustrating how generative AI is being forced on people even though they don't want it, and this is sort of funny.

Here's are Google's autocomplete suggestions for "google gemini how to", and Bing's autocomplete suggestions for for "microsoft copilot how to".

I haven't been very active here, but I'm going to make an effort to engage more. The most difficult thing about this migration is that I've already done it twice before, and each time people I follow/entire communities get scattered.

On top of this, I have my concerns about the way bsky might approach community and content management, but I guess it's time to wait and see.
I'm getting the hang of bsky, but I really miss the hashtag system. Being able to reference and search is highly useful on any platform. It's a quick and efficient way to find and build community #sadnohashtags

I'm curious to see if this change goes through. It's wildly unpopular and every social media site has some function that allows you to avoid other users. That being said, Elon Musk is an unintelligent edgelord who can't stand the thought that people might ignore him.
Look, Twitter leadership talk up big changes that never go through because that ship is being captained by lying incompetent goons, but if they ditch the block function I’m overboard. I don’t need that kind of negativity in my life and neither do you.

It's the Friday before classes begin and I'm working on finishing my Canvas courses and... I've sprained my pinky, of all things. Now it's buddy-taped to my ring finger and it's fascinating to watch how this impacts my typing.

I will stay on the bird site until it burns to the ground or until enough of my compatriots leave it to make it untenable to stay. But, I will try to be just as active here once I get my feet under me! If any of my rhetoric/composition, medievalist, ttrpg, or fantasy lit folks are out there, hello!

If Bluesky seems dead or low activity on your end it might be that you haven't yet made the most of its design. It's different from Twitter in some key ways so you have to interact differently. I'm writing these tips below from my non-techy perspective, techies please weigh in if I get things wrong:

In a taxi. The CEO of not Twitter has explained in an advertorial sound clip that they had to change their name to X to avoid being graded on the Twitter report card. The implication being that the grade would be an F, I guess. Repeating the word "bold" a lot didn't make it sound any better.

It's like the fact that we've stopped tracking this disease and decided "it's over" has made it harder for people to know that they do, in fact, have covid. A friend came down with it this week and I'm concerned about the numbers with the semester starting again.

Ok, I am now here in (on?) BlueSky. I had a whole thing on Twitter regarding its transition under a certain billionaire and how it mirrors similar social media exoduses in the past for marginalized communities. https://twitter.com/kairoticgood/status/1683687189865979906?s=20
