Looks/sounds like nylon tricot to me. It usually has some stretch on the bias, but that can depend on weight. (Lower denier tricots will have more give on the bias than higher.)

I’m also pondering the ways in which our mothers and grandmothers influence our sense of style. I hadn’t really thought mine had yet. But I’ve been wanting a maroon or red velveteen jacket recently. I just found one in this closet, which I can now vividly remember my mom wearing when I was a child.

I recently read one set partially in the town I grew up in, and despite being published in 2024, they seem to have done no research on the town at all. And it was historical fiction!
