My first ceramics piece is out of the kiln!

I'm taking a college level course & it's been an interesting challenge. I've never done this before & it's both frustrating and freeing. The assignment was to throw a cylinder and then alter it. All additions had to be wheel thrown.

i did pick up some extremely cute fabric. it's going in a little stack of fabrics i'm slowly accumulating for a future quilt 😈

The recent pages look good too. I got caught up when I couldn't sleep last night. It's an epic fantasy spanning centuries with a lot of humour and fun characters. It has some of the more unique layouts + world building backgrounds in comics, especially indie stuff.

spending my time fantasizing about making a version of this quilt by holly clarke designs. i really want to up my skills w piecing on curves!

I also uhhhh definitely do not need more quilts in my tiny apartment so if ur a friend & this appeals to you... talk to me in 6 months
screenshot of holly clarke design's gingham glitz quilt pattern. it apes a ginham weave with blocks of colour. in diagonal blocks, there are classic sparkle designs. it's so dang cute. clarke does it in pink/yellow/red colourways, but it would look amazing in basically any colour combo u can think of. even neutrals!!

It's very freeing to accept that it's unlikely that I'm ever the first person to do anything. I was like "wow it's so convenient to do a base sketch in non-photo blue and then build up the detailed sketch in graphite why isn't anyone talking about this?" & then this morning I saw Eisner's pencils.
pencils from will eisner's a contract with god. the lines that sketch out the composition of the page are done in blue pencil , the letters and more developed drawings are done in graphite.

Layer 1 of hand appliquéd elements are ON. Layer 2 of hand appliquéd elements are next on the to-do list.

Not to toot my own horn but I'm really good at my hobbies!!!

Quilt update!!!!!!

Part of the concept behind this design is "contrast" -- especially contrast between geometric machine sewn elements and organic hand sewn elements. I've got the first hand appliquéd "nebula" sewn on and it looks soooooo gooood!!!!

In the evenings I've been slowly picking away at the hand appliqué elements (dw, when I write up the pattern I'll be including instructions for machine appliqué too). Aaaaaand the appliqué is going to look SO good on the base. I'm like kind of obsessed with myself???

🌟🌈Quilt progress update!!!🌈🌟

This week I managed to finish the base top for the quilt I'm designing. I could have done this in about a day but I've been taking it slow to collect progress pics & make sure everything is working out just right. I'm keeping notes as I go to turn into a pattern!

Here's a little painting I did today.

Update on the update: this is looking sick as hell 🤩
Close up on a quilt top. It is mostly a checkerboard pattern (alternating teal and black star covered squares) with a thin border of the black starry fabric. On the other side of the border is a pattern of dark blue and teal HRTs.

Quilt update: i have almost all the appliqué elements cut out and pinned. I'm really happy with how they're looking. Tomorrow I'm probably going to start sewing some of the other quilt elements!

I went to the opening of Emily Cowan's solo show "UNDER LEASE" last night & if you're in Vancouver you *have* to get out to Slice Gallery to see it. The way that she paints buildings is incredible.

update: i did a pretty good job guessing at colours via ordering online!!!!!! idk how i'm supposed to focus today when all i want to do is start cutting fabric!

hiiiiiiiiii hope you're all having a good weekend. i just really need you to see the sewing project I've been working on this weekend to test out some techniques are designs for a quilt I've been planning.

Ok the plan is to print these FPP and appliqué templates out and test them on some scraps this weekend (maybe frankenstein a pillow with the various blocks?).

I'm so excited about making this quilt a real thing!
