Please know that if the underlying, distressing, issue is never addressed, then the autistic person is not only still upset, but is being punished—or having rewards taken away, for being in distress. That is an unfair and horrible way to live. 2/

It took me three hours to get my living room floor clean today.
Because I wanted such extravagant things like not fainting or throwing up from pain while doing so and had to take breathing breaks every two minutes.
I'll more thsn happily work 8 hours if someone else battles my body 24/7 instead!

Also most of my body is on the inside. Like my brain. And other organs. And blood. And joints. And my immune system.
You know...the things that are notorious for malfunctioning and making you sick?

Let's be clear, this happens because of what people tend to assume about autistic people in the first place.

There's an assumption that autistic people aren't intelligent or struggle with skills understood to be core to intelligence. This isn't universal (or even generally) true

As someone who is working my own recovery: a moment that gives you the chance to make a (tiny) choice.
Like the choice to breathe or to redirect your thoughts for one second.
It's the point when we are back "in charge" of ourselves enough to make a choice about our next move.
