Yeah that’s an often overlooked movie. I’ve never seen it but someday I should do a double feature with that and the Universal one.

So I guess you could say my ranking is:

1979 - arthouse with a documentary feel (the moody one)

1922 - influential, expressionist and a bit goofy (the fun one)

2024 - modern, slick, and well-acted (the intense one)

Can’t go wrong with any of them, mostly depends on what mood one is in!

Egger’s remake is very slick and modern, and it’s got superb acting and extremely tense scenes. I really dislike Orlok’s appearance in this one, even if it’s more period accurate. I also feel its extreme contrast makes it a bit too dark to see at times. Has one of the best final shots in horror too.

The Herzog remake is more like a tone poem. It’s very moody and very ‘European’. It’s more concerned with Dracula bringing the plague. You can really get a sense of history from it. I love the music and how naturalistic it is. There’s almost no SFX at all, it’s like one of Herzog’s documentaries.

All three Nosferatu films are excellent, but they provide really different experiences.

The Murnau original is iconic and one of the best silent horror films (maybe THE best). It’s very expressionist and rather kooky at times. It could be argued it’s the most influential vampire film ever.

Hmm I had it on 'warn', not 'hide' but I went ahead and turned the rude setting off.
