My book, The Future That Was, is about the extraordinary rise of global research on women.

It also about the attacks on & starvation of gender research today by universities who leave only the shell intact, dismantling entire fields of knowledge built by women

I don't know who needs to hear this but grad students and, in fact, undergrads too can benefit immensely from Writing Center support. It is never too early nor too late to seek feedback on any kind of written work.

Looking forward to the books and it was great listening to Prof. @audreytruschke.bsky.social and Prof. Davis for the first time!!
Columbia folks -- I'm giving a joint talk with the amazing Richard Davis at the University Seminar on South Asia on Feb. 3.

Just small subjects on the table, like how to write sweeping histories of South Asian history, cultures, and religions.

Help! I want to use this classic group photo from India House, London (1909) in my book, but it is in the hands of Hindutva fanatics, and I don't want to ask them for permission. It is old enough to be in the public domain. Any suggestions for getting access. savarkarsmarak.com/%E0%A4%9B%E0...

I am begging us to understand religion as a system of power and not only theology

white American Christianity is a supremacist system, and has been, forever

It has forever shaped our laws, publics, etc, from their inception

it is not about the text or faith

it is about having & keeping power
Fox News: The church is in trouble because it is focusing on "wokeism", you know stuff like "helping people of different race, or sexual persuasion, whatever, instead of focusing on The Word."

my sister in christ have you ever opened a bible?

Of course, academic research in history is important but something is going amiss when people (academics+ not associated with RW ideology+minority) start claiming Ram to be a historical character, despite the decades of scholarship to prove the contrary.

As we celebrated Savitribai Phule's birth anniversary yesterday, I couldn't help but remember Hari Narke who left us one and half years ago. Narke spent so much of his career gathering historical details about Jotirao and Savitribai Phule, including the accurate information about Savitribai's death.

This is a good time to share that I edited essays for a special issue of Asian Affairs that was published as an edited book by #Routledgehistory this year. Includes essays on #Partition and the war of 1971 to better understand debates on belonging and citizenship in #SouthAsia today.
